What To Do After the Session — Massage in Amsterdam

Notes on the post-session hour.

2026-02-15

The session ends. The therapist leaves. You are alone in the room. The next hour matters more than most clients realise. Here is what we recommend.

Do not rush back into ordinary life. The format works because it produces a specific state; that state has a half-life of one to two hours during which everything you do extends or shortens it. A phone call about work, an email triage, a noisy meal — all these collapse the state quickly. A quiet hour preserves it.

Drink water. The body has been working; the oils have been released through the skin; hydration helps the post-session settling.

Shower if the format calls for it. Nuru, soapy, and any oil-heavy session benefits from a five-minute shower at the close. Tantra and lighter sensual sessions usually do not — staying with the oils on the skin extends the experience.

Sleep if you can. Many clients who book sessions that end after 22:00 sleep within an hour of the close. The sleep is exceptional — the kind of sleep most adults rarely get. If your schedule allows for it, sleep.

Eat lightly if at all. A heavy meal immediately after a session collapses the post-session state. A light snack, fruit, water — these support the settling. Restaurants are best deferred for an hour or two.

Do not exercise. The body has been worked over; the muscle is in a relaxed state that does not respond well to immediate active engagement. The next morning is fine for exercise; the next hour is not.

Read or sit quietly if you cannot sleep. The post-session hour is one of the rare windows where reading, thinking, sitting still all become unusually pleasant. The mind is quiet enough to actually receive what you are reading. Books that have been on your stack for months land in this hour.

The hour after the session is, in many clients' assessment, the part of the booking they remember most. The session itself is what produces the state; the hour after is what does the work.
