What clients can do in the ten minutes before the therapist arrives.
Most of the room preparation for an outcall session is done by the therapist on arrival. She brings the linens, the oils, the equipment. There are a few things, however, that clients can do in the ten minutes before her arrival that improve the session materially. None of them are required; all of them help.
Temperature first. The room should be slightly warm — somewhere between 22 and 25°C. Massage works best in a slightly warm space because the body's surface relaxes more readily; cold rooms make the muscle harder to read. If the heating is centrally controlled, set it slightly higher than usual half an hour before the session. Hotel suites typically have individual climate control; turn it up.
Lighting second. Subdued is better than bright. Most therapists prefer to work in low light; the body relaxes faster, and the client's eyes are not engaged. Bedside lamps on, overhead off, is usually right. Candles if you happen to like them; they are not required but neither are they unwelcome.
Phone third. On silent. Notifications disabled. A vibrating phone in the next room is the single most common interruption to outcall sessions. Eliminate it before the therapist arrives.
Music fourth. Some therapists bring their own; some prefer silence. If you have a soft ambient playlist you like, queue it. If you have nothing, leave it silent — the therapist will adjust on arrival if music would help.
A clean towel fifth. The therapist brings linens for the working surface; you may want a separate towel for yourself. Place it where you can reach it. Useful for after the session if you intend to shower.
Tip and method sixth. If you intend to tip and pay in cash, have it ready in an accessible place so the close of the session is not delayed by you searching for a wallet. If paying by card or crypto, the therapist will guide you at the close.
Beyond these six the room preparation is finished. The rest is the therapist's responsibility. The format has been worked out enough that clients should not need to do much.
